The York University Lions men's basketball team defeated the Brock Badgers 101-89 on Saturday (Feb. 7) in St. Catharines, Ont.

In the first quarter, the Lions led 16-11 until Matt Marshall made three free throws and Dani Elgadi made a jump shot to tie the score 16-16. Â Nolan Mackenzie made a three-point jump shot in the last two seconds of play, to put the Badgers in the lead at the end of the first with 19-16.

The Badgers continued to lead in the second as they netted 18 points compared to the Lion's 16.
Nick Tufegdzich (Tecumseh, Ont.) scored four jump shots and
Nathan Culbreath (Kingston, Ont.) delivered one three-point jump shot, one free throw and one jump shot to push the Lions through the second quarter. The Badgers continued to lead in the second with a score of 37-32.

The Lions turned the game around in the third quarter with a tremendous effort from
Richard Iheadindu (Brampton, Ont.), Culbreath,
Phillip Cunningham-Gillen (Hamilton, Ont.) and Tufegdzich who tied the score at 57-57.
Yonathan Kristos (Woodbridge, Ont.), Cunningham-Gillen and Iheadindu scored one jump shot each to put the Lions in the lead with 63-57.

The Lions held their lead in the final quarter as they showered 38 points on the Badgers, compared to their 32 points. The Lions ended the game with a final score of 101-89.

The big man Tufegdzich led the Lions with 27 points and 12 rebounds. He also added three assists and converted 9-of-10 free throws.

Iheadindu added 23 points, while Culbreath scored 18,
Gene Spagnuolo (Maple, Ont.) tallied a season-high 16 and Cunningha-Gillen had 12.

The Lions take second place in the OUA East conference, behind the No. 3 Ryerson Rams, with 18 points and a record of 9-7. The Badgers are in the bottom of the OUA Central Conference with 12 points and a record of 6-10.

The next game for the Lions is a home game on Friday (Feb. 13) against the No.1 Ottawa Gee-Gees at 8pm in the Tait McKenzie Centre.
