The York University Lions women's basketball team fell to the Brock Badgers 75-66 on Saturday (Feb. 7) in St. Catharines, Ont.

The Badgers opened up the game with a jump shot from Kira Cornelissen and a three-point jump shot from Kayla Santilli that was quickly countered by
Shauney Fischer (Wallaceburg, Ont.) and
Ishanaa Seupersadsingh (Markham, Ont.),
Emma Thompson (London, Ont.), who made a three-point jump shot, and
Taylor Ross (Cookstown, Ont.), who made two jump shots, were able to add seven more points to the scoreboard. The Badgers netted 23 points in the first quarter, putting them in the lead 23-11.

The Lions were able to turn the game around in the second, netting a total of 20 points, compared to the Badger's 18 points. Thompson led the attack, scoring two three-pointers, two free throws and one jump shot;
Jackie Koudys (Smithville, Ont.) served as a counterpart as she netted two free throws and two jump shots. The Lions closed the gap in the second quarter with a half-time score of 41-31, with the Badgers still in the lead.

In the third quarter the Lions scored 16 points, while the Badgers continued to flourish, scoring 18. The Badgers continued to dominate as the ended the third with a score of 59-47

The Lions continued to play strong in the fourth as they topped the Badgers score again; the Lions scored 19 points compared to the Badger's 16. Unfortunately the Lion's efforts came too late as the Badgers created an extensive gap from the first quarter. The game ended in a final score of 75-66.

Koudys played an excellent game leading the Lions with 15 points, which included one three-point jump shot. She also added five rebounds, as well as converted 2-of-2 free throws.

Courtney Osborne (Markham, Ont.) and Thompson also scored double digits as they both netted in 13 points. Osborne added 10 rebounds, three assists and converted 1-of-2 free throws. Thompson added three three-point jump shots, eight rebounds and converted 2-of-2 jump shots.

The Lions continue to linger at the bottom of the OUA East standings with a total of four points and a record of 2-14, while the Badgers also sit at the bottom of the OUA Central standings with a total of 14 points and a record of 7-9.

The next contest for the Lions is on Friday (Feb. 13) against the Ottawa Gee-Gees in a home game at 6pm in the Tait McKenzie Centre.
