On Wednesday (Jan. 13) the York University Lions women's basketball team fell 99-61 to the No. 2 nationally-ranked Ryerson Rams at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.

The Lions were able to finish the first quarter with a close 20-17 score, but the Rams were able to accumulate enough points throughout the rest of the game to finish with a 99-61 victory.

Ishanaa Seupersadsingh (Markham, Ont.) and the Rams' Mariah Nunes were tied with the most points scored with an impressive total of 22. Both sunk nine of their 17 field goal attempts, both grabbed three points off of free throws, and both scored a three-pointer each.

Keneca Pingue-Giles and Katherine Follis also added points for the Rams. Pingue-Giles totaled 18 points, scoring 10 of her 14 attempted free throws, while Follis ended the game with 15 points from five field goal points and three free throws made.

The Lions
Jackie Koudys (Smithville, Ont.) and
Taylor McAlpine (Huntsville, Ont.)
both scored three field goals and two free throws. Koudys finished the game with nine points while McAlpine contributed eight.
Katrina Collins-Samuels (Hamilton, Ont.) also put up seven points to the board for the team.

Overall, the Rams worked hard on and off the ball to successfully shoot 51.5% from the field, 42.9% from the three-point line and 69.7% from the free throw line.

The Rams improved to 6-1 on the season with the victory and are now tied for first in the OUA East, while the Lions slipped to 2-7 and remain at the bottom of the division.

The Lions will rest up before they welcome the OUA East first-placed Queen's Gaels (6-1) to the Tait McKenzie Centre for their next contest. Tip-off will be at 6pm on Saturday, Jan. 23.
