On Saturday, Jan. 30 the York University men's basketball team fell 91-61 against the nationally ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Montpetit Hall in Ottawa, Ont.

Although the Lions started the game off strong with a 23-18 lead after the first quarter, the Gee-Gees quickly caught up and ended up taking the game with a 30-point win.

Mike L'Africain played an excellent game for the Gee-Gees and finished with 31 points. All in all, he sank 11 shots from the field, including four from behind the three-point line and was also  five for five from the free throw line. Nathan McCarthy and Matt Plunkett also put up 12 points a piece to the board to help their team out.

For the Lions,
Tommy Hobbs (Anchorage, Alaska) totaled the most points with 14, scoring five field goals, two three pointers, and two free throws. Â

Nana Adu-Poku (North York, Ont.) and
Nathan Culbreath (Kingston, Ont.) also contributed strong games for the Lions. Adu-Poku had 11 from the field along with five rebounds, while Culbreath finished with ten points and seven boards.

With the result in hand, the Gee-Gees sit comfortably at the top of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) North Division standings with an 11-1 record on the year, while the Lions sit in the fourth spot in the OUA East standings with six points.

Within the week, the Lions will return home to face off against the Lakehead Thunderwolves at 8pm on Feb. 5 (Friday). Fans can catch the game at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
