The York University women's basketball team left the nation's capital with an 82-52 defeat against the No. 9 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday night (Jan. 30), at Montpetit Hall.

The Gee-Gees controlled the action throughout the game outscoring the Lions 21-10 in the first quarter, 14-12 in the second, 28-17 in the third, and 19-13 in the fourth.

Overall Ottawa's Katherine Lemoine tallied the most points with 15, scoring seven from the field, one from the free throw line, grabbing four rebounds and two assists.
Haley Bowie (Ancaster, Ont.) led the Lions with 12 points from three field goals, six made free throws, while also picking up four rebounds.

Lions guard
Ishanaa Seupersadsingh (Markham, Ont.) and Gee-Gee's Sarah Besselink followed with 11 points apiece. Seupersadsingh was 5-12 from the field, while Besselink went 3-4 from three point land.

Sandra Nagowska (Peterborough, Ont.) and
Nina Guzina (Toronto) also put up eight points each for the Lions. They both had three buckets from the field, while Nagowska sank two from the free throw mark and Guzina was 2-3 from beyond the arc.

With the result, the Gee-Gees remain at the top of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) North Division standings with 22 points while the Lions sit in fourth in the OUA East Division standings.

In the upcoming week the Lions will gear up to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Feb. 5 (Friday). Tip off will be at 6pm.
