The York University Lions women's hockey team suffered a 4-2 defeat to the Windsor Lancers in a Saturday afternoon affair at South Windsor Arena in Windsor, Ont.
The Lancers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first period of play, including scoring twice in the first 3:01 of the game on goals by Taylor Conte and Emily Bowman. Their third goal of the frame came at 15:55, by Erinn Noseworthy on a power play.
It didn't take long for the Lions to get back into the game in the second as defender
Taylor Davison (Oakville, Ont.) scored just 1:52 into the period also on a power play, with assists to
Jenna Gray (London, Ont.) and
Avery Reeves (Mount Forest, Ont.).
The Lancers restored their three-goal lead just minutes later, however, when Natalie Barrette found the back of the net.
York rookie goaltender
Lauren Dubie (London, Ont.) settled down after that, turning aside the rest of the shots she faced to give her team a chance to get back into the game. Unfortunately, her counterpart from Windsor, Morgan Farrow, was also strong between the pipes and did not allow the Lions many chances.
Rianna Langford (Collingwood, Ont.) scored at 19:39 of the period with an assist to Davison, but time wound down before the Lions could get any closer to the Lancers.
Dubie finished with 21 saves on 25 shots, while Farrow had 24.
The Lions have now lost five in a row and fell to 1-1-5-2 on the season, while the Lancers improved their record to 4-0-4-1 and are fifth in the OUA.
The Lions will be on the road again next weekend, first against the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 19) at 2:30pm and then followed by a trip to London, Ont., to face the Western Mustangs the following day.
