The York University Lions women's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by the defending OUA and CIS champion and No. 3 nationally-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 13) at the Goldring Centre.

The Lions kept each set close but could not find a way to get past the dominant Blues. Toronto won the sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-23.

Second-year outside hitter
Sarah Williams (Oakville, Ont.) led the Lions with 13 points on 10 kills, two service aces and one block. Also having a big afternoon was
Melissa Smillie (White Rock, B.C.) with 10 points on eight kills and two service aces. She also tied for the team lead with 12 digs.

Carley Flemmer (Delta, B.C.) also had 12 digs, while
Kirsten Dillon (Surrey, B.C.) finished with a team-high 24 assists.

The Blues were led by Alina Dormann, who put up 18 points on 16 kills and two blocks. Setter Madelyn Mandryk also had a big game with 32 assists.

The Lions continue their road trip next weekend when they visit Peterborough, Ont., for the first time to face the Trent Excalibur, who are new to the OUA this season. The match is set for Saturday (Nov. 19) at 6pm.
