LIONS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT WITH SWEEP OF EXCALIBUR

The York University Lions men's volleyball team earned its third straight victory on Saturday night with a three-set sweep of the Trent Excalibur in Peterborough, Ont.

The Excalibur are one of two new teams to the OUA after joining in the off-season and are still looking for their first win as a program at 0-6. The Lions improved to 3-2 with the victory.

The result of the match was never in doubt as the Lions won all three sets convincingly. They took the first 25-19, the second 25-15 and the third also 25-15.

The Lions featured a balanced scoring attack that saw 10 different players record at least one point, including five that scored five or more points. Leading the way was Spencer Dakin Kuiper (Lethbridge, Alta.) with nine points on six kills, two blocks and one service ace.

Rookie libero Patrick Jensen (Hamilton, Ont.) led all Lions with five digs, while Davis Gordon (Markham, Ont.) put up 27 assists.

Trent's leading scorer was Reggie McLean with seven points.

The Lions have played just once at home and will finally return to the Tait McKenzie Centre next weekend when they host the Queen's Gaels and RMC Paladins in back-to-back matches. Up first are the Gaels on Saturday evening (Nov. 26) at 8pm.
