The York University Lions men's hockey team gave up four goals for the first time since opening weekend on Friday night in a 4-0 loss to the high-scoring Carleton Ravens at Canlan Ice Sports.
Â
The Lions gave up four goals in each of their first two contests but have since become the stingiest defensive team in the OUA, allowing only two goals per game heading into the contest with the Ravens. The loss was only their second in regulation since the end of October, dropping their record to 10-5-2, while the Ravens improved to 10-7.
Â
The Lions outshot the Ravens 10-7 in the first period but it was Carleton that took the early lead, scoring a pair of goals in the opening period for a 2-0 advantage after one. OUA scoring leader Michael McNamee netted the first goal at 9:41 and Corey Durocher added another at 11:21.
Â
The Ravens dominated the second, outshooting the Lions 12-4, and were finally rewarded just before the end of the frame when Adam Chapman scored at 18:58 to make it 3-0.
Â
Curtis Meighan rounded out the scoring with the game's first goal at 11:29.
Â
Carleton goaltender Francois Brassard was tremendous in the win, making 23 saves to each the shutout in net. His counterpart at the other end, York's
Mack Shields (Saskatoon, Sask.), stopped 24 of the 28 shots faced.
Â
The Lions have one more game before the long December break and will look to wrap up 2016 on a high note against the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday night (Dec. 3). Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm at Canlan Ice Sports.
