On Friday, Feb. 19 (Friday) the York University men's basketball came back in the second half and left Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., with a 68-67 victory over the Algoma Thunderbirds.

The two teams went back and forth throughout the game. After a close first quarter, the Thunderbirds grabbed an eight-point lead by the end of the second, then the Lions came back to narrow the Thunderbirds' lead to two points at the end of the third.

However with three seconds left of play at the end of the fourth quarter, it was
Nathan Culbreath's (Kingston, Ont.) made jump shot that secured the 68-67 win for the Lions.
Phillip Gillen (Hamilton, Ont.) was given the assist for the critical and timely basket.

In addition to Culbreath who tallied 13 points and Gillen who had 10,
Gene Spagnuolo (Maple, Ont.) was also a standout for the Lions leading the team with 20 points. Spaguolo was 2-4 from three point land and shot 8-10 from the free thrown line.

Tommy Hobbs (Anchorage, Alaska) also had a solid game for the Lions with seven points from three field goals and one three pointer. He also led the team with nine rebounds.

For the Thunderbirds Sean Clendinning had a game-high of 25 points, scoring seven of his 22 field goal attempts, four three pointers, and seven free throws. Andre Barber was the second leading scorer for the Thunderbirds with 11 points.

In the upcoming week the Lions will prepare for the their final two games of the regular season. Friday night's (Feb. 26) game is a big one with potential playoff implications against the Toronto Varsity Blues at the Tait McKenzie Centre. Fans can catch the game at 8pm.
