Fifth-year striker
Nour Ghoneim scored six goals in two games to lead the York University Lions women's soccer team to a pair of season-opening victories over the Algoma Thunderbirds at Superior Heights Field in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., this past weekend.

The reigning CIS player of the year got her season off to a quick start by scoring in the 14
th minute of the season opener en route to an 8-0 victory by the Lions.
Kiyani Johnson (Markham, Ont.) and
Christina Morelli (Markham, Ont.) each netted a pair in the contest, while
Dina Ricco (Bolton, Ont.) and newcomers
Ashley Nater (Pickering, Ont.) and
Catherine Guevin (Ottawa) all added one goal apiece.

Ghoneim, Morelli and Nater all tallied goals in the first half, before Johnson scored two in a row to start the second half, followed by Ricco, Guevin and Morelli's second.

Tamara Orlando (East York, Ont.) got the start in net and earned the clean sheet while having to make just one save in 90 minutes.

The Lions were even more dominant the following day, posting an 11-0 win thanks to eight goals in the first half, five of them from Ghoneim. She opened the scoring in the first minute and added goals in the 15
th, 16
th, 18
th and 21
st minutes and also assisted on a goal by
Sia Papadopoulos (Maple, Ont.) in the 10
th minute to blow the game open early.

Morelli and Nater also scored in the first half for an 8-0 lead, and
Jessie Wootton (King City, Ont.),
Kristen Riquelme (Vaughan, Ont.) and Morelli tallied in the second half for the victory.

Courtney Davis (Cambridge, Ont.) made her first start of the season in net and made three saves for the shutout win.

The Lions will play their first games at home this weekend when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at Alumni Field on Saturday (Sept. 3) beginning at 1pm.
