LIONS HOST WARRIORS IN ANNUAL FROSH FRENZY GAME

The No. 1 nationally-ranked York University Lions men's soccer team will host the Waterloo Warriors in the annual Frosh Frenzy game in front of an anticipated crowd of more than 3000 students on Thursday evening (Sept. 8) at Alumni Field.

The Lions swept the season series between the two teams last year, winning in Waterloo 2-1 and at home 5-0. The Lions have won 11 straight games against the Warriors dating back to Waterloo's last win on Sept. 18, 2010.

  • The Lions started the year with three straight victories, most recently defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-1 in their home opener on Saturday. They are the only team in the OUA West with a perfect winning record to start the season.
  • The Lions opened the season with a pair of shutout victories over the Algoma Thunderbirds on the road in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., winning 7-0 and 4-0.
  • The Lions are ranked No. 1 in the CIS for the second straight week and have now been nationally ranked in 52 straight polls dating back to Week 6 in 2010.
  • Prior to Thursday's contest against the Warriors, the Lions will be in Hamilton, Ont., on Wednesday evening for a game against their biggest rivals, the McMaster Marauders.
 
Waterloo
  • The Warriors have started the season with a win and two losses in their first three games, with their lone victory coming on the road over the Brock Badgers last weekend. They also have a pair of losses to Laurier and Guelph.
  • The Warriors finished eighth in the OUA West last year with a 3-11-2 record, missing out on the sixth and final post-season berth by five points.

York
 
M Dena Iezady – York's male athlete of the week after scoring the winning goal against Laurier on Saturday. The fifth-year midfielder has a knack for big goals, scoring the penalty kicks winner against UBC in the CIS semifinals last year.
 
S Ryan Telfer – Tied for the OUA lead in points with five (three goals, two assists).
 
Waterloo
 
F Jae Jin Lee – Has accounted for two of Waterloo's three goals and added an assist this season. As a rookie last year he led the team in scoring with six goals.
 
S Nik Paradis – The rookie striker scored the only other goal for the Warriors so far this season, the lone marker against Laurier.
