Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

LIONS HAVE WINNING STREAK COME TO AN END AGAINST RYERSON

The York University Lions men's volleyball team had its five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 loss to the Ryerson Rams at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

The match was a tight affair that saw three of the five sets go past the end in order to determine a winner.

The Rams raced out to a big lead early in the first set and were up 16-10 at the technical timeout, but the Lions came all the way back to level the score at 23-23 and they stole the set by a score of 27-25.

The Rams were again strong to start the second set but this time they did not relinquish the lead. The Lions narrowed the gap to 21-19 but could not get any closer and the Rams took the set 25-20. For the third set in a row, Ryerson led at the technical timeout and once again they carried that advantage to the end to pull ahead 2-1 with a 25-20 win.

The Lions finally had a lead early in the fourth set and were up 16-14 at the timeout. The two squads traded points down the stretch before the Lions pushed the match the distance by taking the set 26-24.

In the fifth the two teams went back and forth from start to finish, with the Rams pulling out the 16-14 victory to win the match.

Alex Duncan-Thibault (Scarborough, Ont.) continued his torrid scoring pace by putting up another 26 points on 21 kills, four blocks and one service ace. Starting setter Logan Mend (Naramata, B.C.) finished with 50 assists.

Ryerson's leading scorer was Lucas Coleman with 29.5 points on 24 kills, four service aces and 1.5 blocks.

The result dropped the Lions' record to 5-3 on the season and into a tie with the Queen's Gaels for third place in the OUA East Division. The Rams moved into first place with the win at 7-3, although they have played more matches than every other team in the division.

The Lions will return to the court on Sunday afternoon when they welcome the Trent Excalibur to the Tait McKenzie Centre for a match beginning at 4pm.
