Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

COMEBACK COMES UP SHORT AS LANCERS EDGE PAST LIONS

The York University Lions women's hockey team came up just short in its bid to take down the visiting Windsor Lancers, falling 3-2 at Canlan Ice Sports on Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first period, the Lancers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of play with an early goal and then another late in the middle frame. Krystin Lawrence scored her OUA-leading 25th goal of the season at 4:35 for a 1-0 advantage, and Erinn Noseworthy found the back of the net just 28 seconds before the end of the period.

Early in the third it was the Lions' turn to score fast as rookie forward Leah Hibbert (Winnipeg) scored her third of the season at 5:18 to cut Windsor's lead to just one.

As time wound down, Lawrence scored her second of the game with only 49 seconds left on the clock for a 3-1 lead. The Lions made things interesting when Dana Somerville (Hockley, Ont.) scored 14 seconds later, but time ran out before the Lions were able to come all the way back.

The Lions are now 3-2-9-4 on the season and sit 11th in the OUA standings with 17 points. The Lancers improved to 8-1-8-2 and currently sit sixth.

The Lions will return to home ice on Sunday afternoon to welcome the Western Mustangs to Canlan Ice Sports. Puck drop is set for 2pm.
