The York University Lions men's hockey team doubled up the host Western Mustangs in a 4-2 victory at Thompson Arena on Friday evening.
The Lions scored twice in a 93-second span in the middle of the first period to open up a 2-0 lead, and they extended it to three just minutes into the second.
Western had its own flurry of scoring soon after York's third goal, scoring two in 45 seconds, but
Greg Milner (Watford, Ont.) gave the Lions another two-tally advantage just a few minutes later and at the midpoint of the game, the Lions led 4-2.
The second half of the game was not nearly as eventful as neither team could find the back of the net again and the Lions picked up their 12
th win of the year to improve to 12-5-2 and continue to hold down second place in the OUA East standings. The Mustangs fell to 6-10-2 with the loss.
Trevor Petersen (Thornhill, Ont.),
Nick Zottl (Sarnia, Ont.) and
Reid Jackman (Etobicoke, Ont.) had the other goals for the Lions. Petersen and Milner both had two-point nights with a goal and an assist each.
Luke Karaim and Robert Polesello scored for the Mustangs.
The Lions will play their first home game of 2017 with a rare Sunday afternoon contest when the Guelph Gryphons come to Canlan Ice Sports. Puck drop is set for 2pm.
