The York University Lions women's basketball team was defeated by a score of 80-46 by the No. 7 nationally ranked Windsor Lancers in their first game of the new year on Friday night in Windsor, Ont.

The Lancers, who are the five-time defending U Sports champions, jumped out to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter of play and didn't look back. They outscored the Lions 19-11 in the second, 19-16 in the third and 25-13 in the fourth to record the lopsided victory.

The loss drops the Lions to 1-6 on the year, while the Lancers are now 8-1.

Fifth-year point guard
Ishanaa Seupersadsingh (Markham, Ont.) led the Lions on the night with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor.

Shauney Fischer (Wallaceburg, Ont.) and
Taylor McAlpine (Huntsville, Ont.) both had seven rebounds.

The Lancers spread the scoring around with five different players recording at least 12 points. Emily Prevost led the way with 14 points, while Caitlyn Longmuir put up 13 and Kayah Clarke, Tyra Blizzard and Melissa Ellis had 12 apiece.

The Lions will look to get back into the win column on Saturday when they continue their road trip with a visit to London, Ont., to face the Western Mustangs beginning at 6pm.
