The York University Lions men's basketball team returned to the court in London, Ont., as they faced off against the Western Mustangs. The Lions fell short of the victory as the Mustangs took the game 81-71.

Brandon Ramirez (Scarborough, Ont.) continued his unstoppable play for the second straight night as he scored nine points to open up the game. Ramirez would total 34 points on the night while also recording eight rebounds. Ramirez has now started 2017 with back-to-back 30-plus point games. However, Western would outscore the Lions 27-12 in the first quarter.

In the second
Jayden Frederick (Scarborough, Ont.) joined in on the scoring attack as he recorded nine points. The Lions matched the Mustangs 19 points in the quarter and the lead remained at 15 entering halftime.

In the third Ramirez continued to lead the charge with 10 points. The Lions defence was much improved as they held the Mustangs to 19 points in the quarter while their offence scored 23 of their own.

In the fourth quarter the Lions would need a big push if the hoped to mount a comeback. Ramirez once again showed up to play in the final quarter as he recorded 10 more points, but the Mustangs would hold off the Lions and take the victory 81-71 to hand York their second straight loss of 2017.

The Lions will be back in action on Friday afternoon (Jan. 13) when they host a day game for school children for the first time. The cross-town Toronto Varsity Blues will be at the Tait McKenzie Centre for the 1pm tip-off.
