LIONS CLOSE REGULAR SEASON ON THE ROAD AGAINST LANCERS

The York University Lions football team wraps up the 2017 regular season on Saturday afternoon with a road game against the Windsor Lancers.

Kick-off is set for 1pm at Alumni Field and the game can also be seen live online on OUA.tv.

Both teams have already been eliminated from playoff contention heading into the finale. The Lions are 1-6 on the year and the Lancers are still looking for their first victory of the season.

After a number of injuries to the offence to start the season, the Lions have gotten many players back and have started clicking on that side of the ball. They have passed the 30-point mark in three of their last four games, including a 41-16 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues in the 48th Red & Blue Bowl in Week 5.

Following a 53-31 loss to the defending champion Laurier Golden Hawks in their home finale, the Lions were on the road in Kingston, Ont., last weekend against the Queen's Gaels. A slow first half spotted the Gaels a big halftime lead, and a furious rally late in the game – including 21 points in the fourth quarter – was not enough as part of a 52-34 defeat.

The biggest injury was to third-year receiver Colton Hunchak, who went down in the team's preseason game against Sherbrooke and missed the first five games of the season. He returned against the Golden Hawks, however, and showed quickly how much the Lions missed him early. In just two games he has already caught five touchdowns, tying him for the OUA lead, and has 21 catches for 238 yards overall.

The Lancers are coming off perhaps their best performance of the season in a 29-13 loss to defensively strong McMaster last week. Windsor's touchdown late in the fourth quarter was the first the Marauders had allowed in five games, and the 29 points the Lancers gave up were their second fewest on the year.

Prior to last week, the Lancers had struggled throughout most of the season. They scored 33 points in their season opener against the Waterloo Warriors but haven't scored more than 14 since, and in four of their contests they gave up at least 50 points.

Windsor's leading offensive player is running back Marvin Gaynor, who ranks fifth in the OUA with 100.4 yards per game and has scored four touchdowns.
