Fifth-year forward
Lindsay Shotbolt recorded her third straight double-double on Friday night to lead the York University Lions women's basketball team to a 69-58 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Wilfrid Laurier Athletic Complex in Waterloo, Ont.

Shotbolt finished with an impressive 17 points and 19 rebounds, as well as four assists, five steals and two blocks. She shot 6-of-10 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Laurier scored the first five points of the game, but the Lions came right back with the next seven to take a two-point lead. The two teams traded leads four more times throughout the opening quarter, and the Lions led 21-17 after 10 minutes of play.

The Lions dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Golden Hawks 18-8 to take a commanding 39-25 lead at the half.

The Hawks came out flying from the break and narrowed York's lead to just five points early in the third. A well-timed timeout from head coach
Erin McAleenan got the Lions back on track, and they stretched their lead to as much as 19 points before Laurier chipped away at the deficit and trailed by 10, 54-44, after three quarters.

The two teams played a tight fourth quarter in which neither team could change the overall score much, and the game finished in favour of the Lions for their third win of the season, moving them to .500 on the year at 3-3. The Golden Hawks are also 3-3 after the loss.

Megan MacLeod had 13 points, two rebounds and one assist, while
Haley Bowie finished with 11 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Laurier's leading scorer was Nicole Morrison with 14 points two go along with two rebounds, two assists and one steal. Irena Rynkiewicz had her own double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lions will remain in Waterloo, Ont., for one more game this weekend, heading to the University of Waterloo on Saturday night to face the winless Warriors. The game will begin at 6pm.
