The York University Lions women's basketball team was defeated by a score of 88-69 by the No. 5 nationally-ranked Windsor Lancers at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday night.
The high-scoring Lancers raced out to a 24-15 lead after the first quarter, but the Lions bounced back in the second to cut the deficit to just four, trailing 35-31 at the half. However, the Lancers came right back after the break with another big quarter, outscoring the Lions by 11 points to stretch their advantage again.
The Lions played their best quarter of the game in the fourth but could not narrow the gap and the game ended in favour of the visitors.
Lindsay Shotbolt continued her tremendous season, putting up 24 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block to lead all players.
Katrina Collins-Samuels also had a big night with 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and one steal.
Windsor's leading scorer was Carly Steer with 20 points, while Eve Uwayesu had 14 and a trio of players finished with 10 each.
The Lions now sit at 4-5 on the season but remain in the top half of the OUA East Division, sitting in fourth place. They will not play at home again until the new year and will wrap up the 2017 portion of their schedule on Wednesday night in Kingston, Ont.
