The York University Lions men's hockey team faced off with the Waterloo Warriors on home ice Saturday night. The Lions were looking to redeem themselves after suffering a loss to the Laurier Golden Hawks earlier in the week. And redeem themselves is exactly what the Lions did, with a 2-0 win over the Warriors.
The Lions scored twice in the first period while at the same time maintaining a strong defence that made it impossible for the Warriors to score.
Josh LaFrance scored the first goal and was assisted by
Justin Bean.
Scott Feser added the Lions' second goal on a power play. Teammates
Reid Jackman and
Trevor Petersen assisted Feser's tally.
The second and third periods held many more opportunities for the Lions to add more goals, but they just couldn't find a way to get the puck past Warriors' goaltender Trevor Martin. The Lions were able to outshoot the Warriors 38-25.
York goaltender
Mack Shields stopped all 25 shots he faced for the shutout.
The Lions now have a 7-1 season record and remain atop the OUA West Division standings. They will play at home again on Sunday, Nov. 5 against the Guelph Gryphons. Puck drop is at 7pm.
