LIONS FALL TO WARRIORS IN SUNDAY AFTERNOON AFFAIR

The York University Lions women's hockey team was defeated by a score of 5-2 by the visiting Waterloo Warriors in their Sunday afternoon contest at Canlan Ice Sports.

The Warriors scored the opening goal of the game less than five minutes in courtesy of Tegan Odland and maintained the one-goal advantage through to the end of the first period.

In the second it was the Lions' turn to score quickly as Chelsea Tucker levelled the game at 1-1 just 3:44 into the frame with assists to Erin Locke and Tayler Murphy. Just when it looked as though the game would remain tied heading into the third, the Warriors took the lead again with 56 seconds left on the clock thanks to Alison Hanson and the score sat at 2-1.

The third period once again featured a quick goal, this time by the visitors as Maryn Caragata netted a shorthanded tally at 2:41 to extend Waterloo's lead to 3-1.

At 9:54 the Lions cut the deficit to one with a goal by rookie Courtney Gardiner that was assisted by Taylor Davison, but two minutes later the Warriors climbed ahead by two goals with a power play marker by Amy Barnard.

An empty netter scored by Samantha Burbridge at 17:51 rounded out the scoring for the Warriors, who improved to 3-1-1-0 with the victory. The Lions now have a record of 1-0-5-1 on the season.

The Lions will be on the road next weekend, beginning with a game at Ryerson University against the Rams on Friday night at 7:15pm. Their next home contest comes on Nov. 18 when the Windsor Lancers come to Canlan Ice Sports for a 2pm game.
