The York University Lions men's basketball team wrapped up the season on Friday night with a 70-60 loss to the Queen's Gaels at the Athletics & Recreation Centre in Kingston, Ont.
The Lions actually outscored the Gaels in three of the game's four quarters, but a difficult second frame in which they were outscored 25-10 proved to be the difference.
The Lions held a narrow 17-16 lead after the first quarter but were down 41-27 at the half after the Gaels had a strong offensive performance before the break. The Lions chipped away at the lead in the second half but could not make up the difference.
Jayden Frederick (Scarborough, Ont.) finished the game with a team-high 16 points and he also added six rebounds, four steals, two assists and one block.
Nidun Chandrakumar (Scarborough, Ont.) was just behind him with 12 points to go along with three rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Queen's had three players reach double digits in scoring. Sukhpreet Singh led all players with 21 points as well as eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Isse Ibrahim and Tanner Graham finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Jesse Graham had 13 rebounds.
The Lions finished the regular season with a 4-15 record and outside the playoff picture. The Gaels improved to 7-12 and will open post-season play on Wednesday on the road in the firs round.
