LIONS WRAP UP SEASON WITH SHUTOUT LOSS TO VOYAGEURS

The York University Lions women's hockey team wrapped up its 2016-17 campaign with a 3-0 loss to the Laurentian Voyageurs at Countryside Arena in Sudbury, Ont., on Saturday afternoon.
 
After a scoreless first period, the Voyageurs scored just 31 seconds into the second to take an early 1-0 lead. The goal was scored by Kennedy Lanktree.
 
Both goaltenders stood tall after that point for the rest of the second period and Laurentian continued to lead 1-0 heading into the final frame.
 
In the third the Voyageurs scored twice in a three-minute span midway through the period to put the game away. Morgan McCann found the back of the net at 7:29 and MacAuley Carr followed suit at 10:29.
 
Rookie goaltender Lauren Dubie (London, Ont.) stopped 34 of the 37 shot she faced in the loss, while Karen Collins earned the shutout in net for Laurentian while making 24 saves.
 
The Lions finished the season with a 4-2-14-4 record and in 12th place in the OUA standings. The Voyageurs have clinched a playoff spot thanks to their 11-1-10-2 record.
