LIONS PLAY NO. 4 RAVENS TOUGH IN NARROW SIX-POINT LOSS

The York University Lions women's basketball team played an impressive game on Saturday night, pushing the No. 4 nationally-ranked Carleton Ravens from start to finish in a narrow 68-62 loss at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

The six-point difference between the two teams is the smallest margin of victory of the season for the undefeated Ravens, who are the defending OUA champions. They are now 14-0 on the year, while the Lions dropped to 6-8.

The two teams traded baskets back and forth throughout the first quarter and the Ravens led by two, at 21-19, after the opening 10 minutes. They went on a roll in the second and built an 11-point advantage by the half, holding a 41-30 lead over the hosts.

The Ravens came out of the break and scored the first four points of the third quarter to stretch their lead to 15, but the Lions brought the deficit back to 11 after three quarters after both teams put up 18 points. The Lions chipped away in the fourth and outscored the Ravens by five points, but they could not get past them before the final whistle.

Chante Clarke, in her first career start, did not disappoint in leading all players with 22 points, and she also added five rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block. Fellow forward Lindsay Shotbolt recorded her fourth straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and she also added three assists, one steal and one block.

The Ravens also had two players reach double digits in scoring. Catherine Traer led the way with 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Elizabeth Leblanc added 13 points, two rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks.

The Lions will head downtown for a pair of road games next weekend, visiting the Ryerson Rams on Friday night and the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday. Both games will begin at 6pm.
