The York University Lions men's basketball team took on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues at the Goldring Centre Friday night, ultimately falling by a score of 73-56.
The Lions initially got off to a small lead early in the first quarter, but the Varsity Blues caught up and a tightly-fought battle ensued for the remainder of the quarter. In the end, the Varsity Blues led by one point at the end of the frame.
The Varsity Blues consistently outscored the Lions in the following three quarters despite the Lions' best offensive efforts to close the gap. Heading into halftime, the Varsity Blues led 33-29.
They walked off the court at the end of the third quarter ended with a 10-point lead, with the score sitting at 49-39. This lead extended despite the Lions' best effort and the fourth quarter wrapped up with a final score of 73-56.
Chevon Brown, who has been on a roll of late, led the scoring for the Lions with 23 points, three of which were three-pointers.
Gianmarco Luciani led in rebounds with 11.
On the Varsity Blues' side, Nikola Paradina led in both points and rebounds, with 22 points and 10 rebounds. His final point tally included four three-pointers.
The Lions now have a 2-14 season record, and the Varsity Blues improve to 8-7.
The Lions will be back in home game action Friday when they take on the Nipissing Lakers, followed by a match-up with the No. 7 Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday. Tip-off is at 8pm at the Tait McKenzie Centre for both contests.
