The York University Lions women's hockey team took to the ice for their second road game of the weekend Sunday afternoon to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs. Despite recording more shots on net, the Lions found some tough competition in the red-hot Voyageurs and lost 2-0.
The Voyageurs have won six straight contests to start 2018, including a pair of shutouts, and have improved their record to 8-1-5-3 on the season. The Lions fell to 5-0-10-3 and sit in 11
th place in the OUA standings.
The Voyageurs scored their first goal on a power play towards the end of the first period courtesy of Morgan McCann, who was assisted by Ellery Veerman and Brooklyn Davis.
The game remained quiet throughout the second period. The scoring action picked up in the third when McCann added the Voyageurs second and final goal. Myla McCormick and Nicole Vigilanti had the assists.
Shanna Dolighan earned the shutout in net, making 25 saves in the winning effort. York's
Lauren Dubie stopped 20 of the 22 shots she faced.
The Lions will be back at Canlan Ice Sports for two home games next weekend. On Saturday they will take on the UOIT Ridgebacks, and they will then face off with the first-place Queen's Gaels on Sunday. Puck drop is at 2pm both afternoons.
