The York University Lions men's hockey team suffered a tough 4-2 loss to the visiting Brock Badgers in their first game of 2018 on Friday night at Canlan Ice Sports.
The Badgers were able to net the first goal four minutes into the game, scored by Brandon O'Quinn and assisted by Sammy Banga and Dexter Weber. Their lead was short-lived, however, as the Lions'
Colton Vannucci scored a minute later. He was assisted by
Shayne Rover.
It was starting to look like the first period would remain a tie, but this came to an end at 15:09 when
Scott Feser added another goal for the Lions. This gave them a 2-1 lead over the Badgers at the end of the first. Feser was assisted by
Reid Jackman.
The second period, though exciting, did not see a single goal from either team, and the Lions headed into the final period still leading 2-1.
The Badgers played strong in the third period and added another three goals to pull off the win. The first came from Cosimo Fontana, who was assisted by Adam Lloyd and Chris Maniccia. A second goal was added by Brown on a Badgers' power play, with Weber adding another assist. Their final goal came from Matt MacLeod into an empty net, who was assisted by Weber and Josh Timpano.
The Lions will head downtown to Varsity Arena to take on the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday, Jan. 7 at 2pm. They will return to Canlan Ice Sports on Friday, Jan. 12 at 7pm where they will face off against the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
