LIONS PEAKING AT RIGHT TIME, HEAD INTO PLAYOFFS WITH BIG 5-2 WIN OVER MUSTANGS

The York Lions beat the Western Mustangs to a 5-2 win on Sunday, Oct 21 in London, Ont. to finish off their regular season.

Western started off the game with three shots against York, the third resulting in a goal at the eighth minute by Western's Jess Vieira, assisted by Nikki Balachorek.

York's Christina Morelli, who played her final regular season game as a Lion, had a scoring chance against the Mustangs, however, it went to the right of Western's net. Morelli then answered that attempt with her first goal of the game, which was assisted by Kiyani Johnson.

Johnson then scored a goal of her own, just minutes before the end of the first half. The Lions led 2-1 against the Mustangs, who had a total of four shots in comparison to the Lions' five.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Morelli scored her second goal of the game, which was followed by rookie, Kalifornia MItchell's first goal of the game. Mitchell provided York with a 4-1 lead against the Mustangs, which was supplemented with an assist by Jotam Chouhan.

York's Stephanie Lamanna then added a fifth goal for the Lions, which was assisted by both Johnson and Morelli.

With just two minutes remaining in the game, Western scored their second goal of the game, adding to a final score of 5-2 for the Lions.

With the win, the Lions leapfrog the Mustangs and move into second place in the OUA West Division standings. They will now receive a first-round bye in the playoffs and will be in action next weekend against an opponent to be determined.
