The York University men's hockey team picked up a 3-1 win against the Laurentian Voyageurs Friday evening at Canlan Ice Sports.

The Lions and Voyageurs were close in shots with the Lions shooting 28 times compared to the Voyageurs 26. The home team was able to capitalize on three and
Mack Shields made 25 important saves for the Lions.

The Lions opened up the scoring in the first period at 14:24 when
Justin Maiolino, who was assisted by
Mark Wilson and
Daniel Nikandrov, was able to sneak a goal passed the Voyageurs goaltender, giving them a 1-0 lead going into the second period.

The Lions fed off the momentum in the first period which allowed them to get another goal in the fifth minute when
Josh LaFrance centered a pass in front of the net to
Dexter Bricker who placed it perfectly in the bottom right corner. With 56 seconds left in the period, the Voyageurs had a good scoring chance with a shot aimed at the top right corner, however Shields made an easy glove save.

The Lions scored their third goal of the game on the power play at 3:54 in the third period.
Reid Jackman, with assists from LaFrance and
Bradley Forrest found the top left corner to beat the Voyageurs goalie. At 15:10, Jayme Forslund of the Voyageurs scored a power play goal on Shields who lost his stick during the play. The tension was high and the physicality increased as the Voyageurs looked to get another goal passed Shields. The Lions held their ground despite the physicality to win the game 3-1.

The Lions are set to play the Laurentian Voyageurs again on Oct. 27 at Canlan Ice Sports. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm.
