The York University women's hockey team were defeated 2-1 by the UOIT Ridgebacks on Saturday afternoon in Oshawa, Ont.
 
The Lions scored an early goal in the first period, however the Ridgebacks were able to score two goals in the third period to top the Lions.
 
The Lions led the Ridgebacks for two periods, thanks to an early goal four minutes into the first period by Avery Reeves assisted by Leah Hibbert. As the second period was underway, the Lions were able to put up ten shots compared to the Ridgebacks' seven, but were unable to get another shot passed the Ridgebacks' goalie, Brooke Vial. The score stayed at a 1-0 lead for the Lions heading into the third period.
 
The Ridgebacks put up more shots than the Lions in the third period with 15 compared to the Lions' 12, which led UOIT's Megan Johnston who was assisted by Chelsea Bell to score a goal which tied the game. With only one minute left to play, the Ridgebacks scored a late goal at 19:01 with a goal by Kassidy Nauboris assisted by Jamie Bulleid and Erin Ross. The late goal allowed the Ridgebacks to win the game.
 
The Lions are back at home on Halloween night, Oct. 31 to compete against the Guelph Gryphons. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm at Canlan Ice Sports.
