LIONS BOUNCE BACK FROM FIRST LOSS OF SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER PALADINS

The York University women's volleyball team defeated the RMC Paladins 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at SAM Gymnasium in Kingston, Ont.

The Lions bounced back from a loss in yesterday afternoon's match against the Queen's Gaels to earn their fifth win this season. The Lions are now tied in first place in the OUA East division with the Ryerson Rams with a 5-1 record on the season.

Despite the Paladins not winning a game yet this season, they managed to bring the Lions to four sets after topping York in the second set. The Lions won the first set by a score of 25-18 with 16 kills and 46 total attacks. Although the Lions almost doubled the Paladins in kills with 21 compared to 12, the Paladins tied the game after winning the second set in a close match by a score of 25-23.

The Lions were looking to take the lead on the Paladins in the third set and they did just that. Similar to the first set, the Lions won yet again 25-18. It was the Lions who came on top in the fourth and final set, however it was a close match as the Lions defeated the Paladins 28-26 to win the game.

Standing out for the Lions was Aleksandra Steins with 20 points, 17 kills, and three digs, along with Kayla Clennon with 17 points, 15 kills and 17 digs. Celeste Witzell earned herself 19 points, 16 kills and five digs, while setter Chiara Da Silva had 48 assists, two kills and eight digs. RMC's Lauryne Mvuezolo had 17 points, 13 kills and 18 digs.

The Lions are back at home on Nov. 23 when they face the Ryerson Rams at Tait Mackenzie Centre. The game is scheduled to start at 6pm.
