The York University women's volleyball team lost their first game of the season 3-1 against the Queen's Gaels on Saturday afternoon at Athletics and Recreation Centre in Kingston, Ont.

The Gaels, who are now 3-4 on the season, managed to break the Lions' four game win streak in front of their home crowd. Although the Lions were able to take an early lead and win the first set, it was the Gaels who came on top winning the last three sets to take the game.

It was York who came on top in the first set with a score of 25-23. Despite falling 17-13 midway through the set, the Lions were able to tie the game 19-19 and eventually take the lead with a kill by
Sarah Williams. With the score tied again at 23-23,
Cadence Currie earned the kill, followed by a Queen's attack error to win the set.

In the second set, the Lions kept it close throughout the start, however they eventually fell ten points behind the Gaels as they led 20-10. Despite a few more points by the Lions, the Gaels were able to earn four consecutive points which eventually led them to their game point to win the set 25-13. The game was tied 1-1.

The Gaels managed to win the final two sets to defeat the Lions in their first game of the season. The third set, Queen's won by a score of 25-20 to take a 2-1 lead, and in the final set Queen's won once again 25-20 to win the match.

Leading the way for York was
Kayla Clennon with 11 points, 10 kills, and four digs, followed by
Aleksandra Steins with 10 points, eight kills, and one dig. The Gaels' Caroline Livingston led the squad to their victory earning 14.5 points, 13 kills, and 12 digs.

The Lions are back in action this afternoon Nov. 18 when they take on the Royal Military College of Canada at SAM Gymnasium. The game is scheduled to start at 1pm.
