The York University Lions women's volleyball team beat the Guelph Gryphons on the road in Guelph, Ont. on Friday by a score of 3-1.

The Lions lost the first set 25-18 to the Gryphons and although they were handily defeated in the first set, they were able to make a comeback throughout the remainder of the game and win the following three sets.

In the second set, the Lions beat the Gryphons by a close score of 25-22. The third set saw another close win by Lions as they took the set in a 25-23, while in the final set of the game, the two teams reversed original scores and York won by a 25-18 score.

In total, Guelph surpassed the Lions in kills, as they had a game total of 52 and the Lions were close behind with 49. The two teams were almost identical in statistics during the game as both teams ended with 64 points each.

The Lions'
Aleksandra Steins and
Cadence Currie had the most kills with 13 and 11 and
Chiara Da Silva led in assists, with a total of 36. Steins led the team with 16 points, while
Kayla Clennon was close behind with 15. Rookie
Tyneille Swaby led the team defensively with 19 digs.

On the Gryphon's side of the court, Michaela Hellinga led in points with 20 and Guelph's Alex Curran led in assists, with 42.

The Lions will be hosting the Trent Excalibur at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Sunday November, 4 at 3pm in their next contest.
