LOCKE SCORES OT WINNER IN FIRST GAME OF SEASON AGAINST VOYAGEURS

The York University women's hockey topped the Laurentian Voyageurs 1-0 with an overtime goal on Saturday evening in Sudbury, Ont., their second OT win this weekend.

The Lions had a quick turnaround from yesterday evenings 6-5 overtime win against the Nipissing Lakers. Despite the high-scoring game against the Lakers, after three periods, neither the Lions nor the Voyageurs were able to get a shot passed the goaltenders.

The Lions outshot the Voyageurs in the first period with 15 shots on goal compared to the Voyageurs' 9. The Voyageurs had 17 more shots in the last two periods, while the Lions only had 12, but neither teams were able to find the back of the net.

The Lions and Voyageurs entered overtime, and at 2:40 it was York's veteran, Erin Locke who was playing in her first game of the 2018-19 season scored the game-winner. Locke led the team in scoring (12 points) in her previous season with the Lions and tied for first with seven assists. Eva Hall earned herself a shutout, saving a total of 26 shots.

The Lions next game will be their final game before the winter break on Nov. 30 against the Western Mustangs at Canlan Ice Sports. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7pm.
