The York University men's basketball team competed against the Western Mustangs and despite outscoring the Mustangs by seven points in the second half the Lions were defeated 78-61 on Saturday evening at Alumni Hall in London, Ont.

The Lions got off to a slow start in the first and second quarter as the Mustangs added 18 points to the scoreboard that the Lions were able to score their first points of the game with a layup made by
Chevon Brown. Brown scored all six of the Lions points in a tough opening quarter, sinking four free throws to end the quarter  at 25-6 for the Mustangs.

Somto Dimanochie made a jump shot and a free throw at the start of the second quarter, however the Mustangs were able to add 17 more points compared to the Lions' 12 to extend their lead by five and end the quarter again with a 42-18 lead.

The Lions made their comeback attempt in the second half scoring thirty points in the third quarter to narrow the Mustangs large lead. Guard
MJ Forbes started off the quarter strong for the Lions with two jump shots and three free throws. Despite the 13-point lead,
Prince Kamunga made an impressive dunk to end the quarter with a score of 61-48 for the Mustangs.

The Lions were able to put up 13 more points in the fourth quarter, however the Mustangs added 17 to secure their win.

Brown had another big game for the Lions adding 21 points and three steals, while rookie
DeAndrae Pierre added eight points and one rebound. Leading the way for the Mustangs was Omar Shiddo with 21 points, one rebound, and one assist.

The Lions are back at home on Nov. 9 to take on the Algoma Thunderbirds at Tait Mackenzie Centre. The game is scheduled to start at 8pm.
