A trio of York University Lions football players were honoured by Ontario University Athletics (OUA) for their outstanding seasons as they were named to the OUA all-star team on Wednesday.
Leading the way for the Lions with two first-team all-star selections was fourth-year vet
Nikola Kalinic, who was named to the first-team for offence at full back as well as the first-team for special teams as a rush/cover. The versatile Kalinic earns his second straight all-star honour after being named to the offensive second-team last season. Kalinic was a menace on special teams this year, using his quickness and instincts to hunt down opposing return men and deliver several bone crushing hits. On offence, Kalinic caught 14 passes for 145 yards and had a season-high four receptions against the Toronto Varsity Blues in the last game of the season, a 31-15 win for the Lions.
Defensive end
Rossini Sandjong-Djabome joins Kalinic as an OUA first-team all-star on the defensive side of the ball, after being named to the second-team last year. Sandjong-Djabome led the Lions in several defensive categories this season, including sacks (4), tackles for a loss (9), and yards lost on a tackle (50). The third-year standout had 24 total tackles and broke up two passes on the season, and his four sacks were tied for seventh overall in the OUA.
Lions wide receiver
Colton Hunchak rounds out the Lions all-stars after to being named an OUA second-team all-star for the second time in his career. Hunchak bounced back in a big way this season after missing much of 2017 with an injury, and despite missing one game ranked fourth in the OUA with 58 receptions, eighth in receiving yards with 610 and tied for third in touchdown receptions with six. Hunchak's most productive game of the season came in Week 5 against a stout Ottawa Gee-Gee's team, where he had 11 catches for 126 yards and a touchdown. Â Â
