LIONS DROP BACK AND FORTH BATTLE TO BADGERS

The York University men's basketball team lost by two points to the Brock Badgers by a score of 96-94 on Saturday evening at Bob Davis Gym.
 
Despite a coming back from a slow start in the second quarter, and leading the game late, the Lions faced a disappointing loss after a buzzer beater jump shot by the Badgers in the final quarter won the game.
 
The Lions added the first points to start the game with a jump shot by Chevon Brown. The Badgers had the biggest lead on the Lions in the last minute of play of the first quarter by a score of 21-12. Gianmarco Luciani made a jump shot and a free throw and the Lions trailed 21-15 by the end of the quarter.
 
After the first two minutes of the second quarter, the Lions started to lead the Badgers 24-23, following a basket by Stefano Spagnuolo. Despite the Badgers tying the game twice, the Lions added a total of 29 points to lead the Badgers 44-40 at the end of the half.
 
The Lions continued to lead the Badgers through the first half of the third quarter, and midway through picked up a 9-point lead, 63-54, after a 3-pointer by Gene Spagnuolo. The Lions picked up their biggest lead when they led by 11 points, 67-56, following two free throws by DeAndrae Pierre. The Badgers caught up to the Lions, however the Lions still led 70- 68 by the end of the quarter.
 
The final quarter, the game was extremely close but the Badgers reclaimed their lead early on and kept the lead on the Lions throughout the remainder of the game. With five seconds remaining, Brown made a huge three-point jump shot to tie the game 94-94. Despite the strong effort by the Lions, the Badgers beat the buzzer on a shot by Michael Vos Otin to win the game.
 
Gene Spagnuolo had a strong game for the Lions earning 19 points and five rebounds. Pierre had 16 points and six rebounds, while Brown had 15 points, five assists and two steals. The top scorer for the Badgers was Johneil Simpson who had 28 points and seven rebounds.
 
The Lions will have a month break until they are back in action on Jan. 4 to take on the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay, Ont. The game is scheduled to start at 8pm.
