The York University women's basketball team lost a close game against the Brock Badgers 75-73 on Saturday evening at Bob Davis Gym.

The Lions competed in their final game until the New Year, and it was one jump-shot and a free throw that allowed the Badgers to top the Lions by two points in the fourth quarter. The Lions managed to comeback from an 11-point deficit in the first quarter and lead the Badgers throughout the third and fourth quarter.

The Lions were the first add points to the score sheet with a jump shot by
Emma Jonas to begin the game. However, it was the Badgers who dominated the rest of the first quarter adding 24 points to lead the Lions 24-13 by the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter the Lions added 20 points compared to the Badgers who only added 8 points. After a 3-pointer by
Chante Clarke, and a jump shot made by
Alysha Pinck, the Lions tied the game 26-26. York took the lead after two free throws by
Lauren Golding, and it was
Cyanna King who made a jump shot and a free throw to end the half and give the Lions a one-point lead 33-32.

The Lions led the Badgers throughout the entire third quarter and ended the quarter leading 51-49. The Lions also led majority of the fourth quarter, until the final three minutes. The Badgers managed to tie the game 66-66. The Lions reclaimed their lead and led the Badgers 73-72 until the final fourteen seconds. The Badgers made a jump shot and a free throw, and the Lions were unable to add any more points as time ran out.

King had a big game for the Lions and added 23 points, seven rebounds, one steal and two blocks, while Pinck had a career-high 13 points and five rebounds. Leading the way for the Badgers was Kristin Gallant and Miranda Smith who each earned 17 points.

The Lions will have a break until the New Year, where they will face the Nipissing Lakers on Jan. 4 in North Bay, Ont. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.
