The York University Lions men's basketball team played its final game of the season on Saturday night in the nation's capital and was defeated 82-54 by the No. 10 nationally-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees.
Â
The Gee-Gees consistently outscored the Lions in each quarter. The Lions quickly fell behind in the first quarter, only scoring half of what the Gee-Gees put in as the quarter ended 24-12. This big deficit proved to be too difficult to bounce back from, as the Lions trailed the remainder of the game.
Â
The Lions were able to hold the Gee-Gees to 56 points for a little while in the third quarter and add six points. Ultimately, this was the longest the Lions would be able to hold off the Gee-Gees, and the home squad cruised to the win.
Â
Nana Adu-Poku had a big game on the night, earning 14 of the Lions' points.
MJ Forbes led the team in rebounds with nine and chipped in with six points.
Â
Brody Maracle led the Gee-Gees in scoring, earning 19 points, and he completed the double-double with 10 rebounds.
Â
The Lions conclude their season with a 2-21 record, while the Gee-Gees improved to 17-6 and snagged the second seed in the OUA East Division, earning a bye in the first round of the playoffs. Ottawa will host an OUA quarter-final next weekend.
