The York University Lions women's hockey team beat the Waterloo Warriors 4-1 on Friday, Jan 11 in Waterloo, Ont.

The Lions were the first to get on the scoreboard at 13:23 with a goal from
Caroline Eagles. The first-year Kinesiology and Health Studies student scored the first goal of her Lions career, with assists from
Ellen Donaldson and
Leah Hibbert. The Lions continued their momentum as they scored their second goal of the game less than a minute later at 14:05.
Erin Locke netted her fifth goal of the season, with assists from Hibbert and
Jenna Gray.

York goaltender
Lauren Dubie was able to save all 12 of the shots fired against her from the Warriors, which helped give the Lions an early 2-0 lead over the home team.

In the second period of the game, Waterloo was able to make an appearance on the scoreboard after falling behind by two goals as their forward Emma Pye was able to get a goal past Dubie at 14:17. The Lions answered Waterloo's goal with back-to-back goals of their own.
Kelsey McHolm scored the third goal of the game and her tenth goal of the season at 17:40, assisted by
Courtney Gardiner and Eagles, and York forward
Chelsea Tucker was able to secure the fourth and final goal for the Lions, thanks to an assist from
Tegan Duncan.

Waterloo and the Lions remained close in shots-on-goal - the Lions with 29 and the Warriors with 28 - however, the Dubie's 27 saves were able to help them gain the win over the Warriors in their first of two games of the weekend.

The Lions return home to play the Laurier Golden Hawks tomorrow at Canlan Ice Sports. Puck drop is at 7pm.
