NO. 9 GRYPHONS TOO MUCH FOR LIONS ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT

The York University Lions women's hockey team lost 4-1 to the Guelph Gryphons in an away game on Wednesday, Jan. 16. 
 
The Lions got off to a great start as they scored the first goal of the game in the first period. At 16:15 York's Courtney Gardiner secured the Lions sole goal with an assist from Tegan Duncan
 
In the second period neither teams scored, however, the Lions controlled the play as they were able to get 11 shots on goal compared to Gryphons' five. 
 
At the beginning of the third period the Lions were still leading 1-0. The Gryphons, however, were able to find the momentum and scored four goals in the final period. The first goal was scored by Guelph's Karli Shell, then Miranda Lantz scored two in a row to take the lead away from York with a score of 3-1.  Finally, the Gryphons' last goal was scored by Kaitlin Lowy, which gave the home team a final score of 4-1. 
 
The Lions, who had won five of their past six games before their loss to Guelph, will be playing on the road in their next game against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday. Puck drop is at 7pm.
