The York University women's basketball team faced the Ottawa Gee-Gees, who are ranked fifth in the country, and fell 88-58 on Friday evening at Montpetit Hall in Ottawa, Ont.

The Lions were up against tough competition playing against the Gee-Gees who are also tied for first place in the OUA East standings with the Ryerson Rams. Despite the loss, the Lions are sitting in fifth-place and are looking to end the second-half of the season strong in order to earn a playoff spot.

The Lions kept the game close throughout the start of the first quarter and trailed by only 3 points, 12-9, midway through the quarter. The Gee-Gees picked up a bigger lead in the final minutes of the quarter and ended it by a score of 27-13.

The Lions added 21 more points in the second quarter, while the Gee-Gees added 23. However, the strong first quarter by the Gee-Gees allowed them to finish the half leading 50-34.

Similarly, the Gee-Gees continued to maintain a large lead on the Lions ending the third quarter with a 69-45 lead and the final quarter by a score of 88-58 to win the game.

Haley Bowie earned herself 12 points, one rebound and one assist, while
Madison Bardoel also had 12 points and one assist. Leading the way for the Gee-Gees was Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists.

The Lions will be playing another tough team, the No. 7 Carleton Ravens tomorrow, Jan. 19 in Ottawa, Ont. Tip-off is 6pm.
