LIONS DEFEATED ON ROAD BY RAVENS

The York University women's basketball team were defeated 71-50 by the Carleton Ravens on Saturday evening at the Raven's Nest in Ottawa, Ont.

The Lions had two tough matchups against top teams in the country this weekend in Ottawa, Ont. Yesterday's matchup against the Ottawa Gee-Gees ended in an 88-58 loss for the Lions. Unlike their previous game against the Gee-Gees, the Lions had a strong first half making it difficult for the Ravens to pick up a large lead.

Haley Bowie opened the match nailing a three-point jump shot after the Ravens put up three points of their own. The Lions were trailing close behind the Ravens with nearly three minutes remaining, and after a three-pointer by Lauren Golding, the Lions led the Ravens 11-9. However, the Ravens managed to add ten more points before the end of the quarter to lead the Lions 19-11 by the end of the quarter.

Despite the Ravens picking up a ten-point lead near the start of the second quarter, the Lions brought the game to just five points after a three-pointer by Emma Jonas. The score was 25-20 for the Ravens midway through the quarter and they ended up leading the Lions 36-24, at the halftime mark.

In the third quarter the Ravens added 16 more points, while the Lions managed six. The Ravens ended the quarter with a 52-30 lead which led them to a 71-50 victory. The Ravens were strong offensively all night and out-rebounded the Lions 44-26.

Lauren Golding had a strong game for the Lions earning 18 points, eight rebounds and one assist. Carleton's Nicole Gilmore and Alyssa Cerino both respectively earned 18 points to lead the Ravens.

The Lions will be playing in a big game against the Laurentian Voyageurs next, where both teams who have identical records will be fighting for the fifth spot in the OUA East Standings. The game will take place on Jan. 25 at Tait Mackenzie Centre.
