The York University women's volleyball team were defeated 3-0 by the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon at Physical Activities Complex in Waterloo, Ont.
The Lions competed against the Waterloo Warriors who are undefeated and sitting in first place in the OUA West Standings. The Lions now have a 6-5 record on the season and are just two points shy of third place with eight games remaining in the regular season.
The Warriors had a strong start in the first set leading the Lions 7-1 before the Lions earned their second point on a service error. The Warriors picked up an 8-point lead midway through the quarter, which led them to win the set 25-18.
The Lions kept the game close in the second and third set. In the second set, the Lions earned their first lead on a Waterloo attack error. Midway through the set, the Lions had a strong lead, 15-9, after a service ace by
Chiara Da Silva. The Warriors stormed back to tie the game 16-16 and led the Lions 18-17 following a kill. Despite the Lions leading most of the set, the Warriors fought their way back to win the set 25-20.
The Lions led at the start of the third set, however the Warriors took the lead, 6-5, and led the rest of the set. Similar to the second set, the Lions kept the game close, trailing just three points, 21-19. However the Warriors took over and earned three consecutive points which led them to win 25-20.
Kayla Clennon led the Lions with 11.5 points, 10 kills, and four digs. Leading the way for the Warriors was Sarah Glynn with 18 points, 18 kills, and five digs.
The Lions are back at home next week, Feb. 2 to take on the RMC Paladins at Tait Mackenzie Centre. The game is scheduled to start at 1pm.
