The York University Lions women's hockey team lost 4-1 against the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Ridgebacks, on Sunday, Jan. 27 at Canlan Ice Sports.
The Ridgebacks, who picked up their seventh of the season, scored the opening goal against the Lions at 6:16. Kassidy Ford's shot found the back of York's net, giving them an early 1-0 lead over the Lions, who had eight shot-on-goals in the first period compared to UOIT's seven.
In the second period of the game, the Lions answered the Ridgebacks' first period goal at 15:47. With the assist of
Erin Locke and
Tayler Murphy,
Taylor Davison from scored the first goal for York while netting her second goal of the season.
The Lions and the Ridgebacks were tied 1-1 by the end of the second period, which also saw 10 saves from York's goaltender
Lauren Dubie.
In the third period, however, the visiting team was able to score three times on goals from Chelsea Ball, Rein Ross and empty netter from Alex Frigon to take a 4-1 victory. Dubie made 20 saves in picking up the loss while Ridgeback netminder Brooke Vial made 16 saves in the win.
The Lions next game will be on the road when they visit Windsor Lancers in Windsor, Ont. on Saturday, Feb. 2.
