LIONS FALL IN SATURDAY NIGHT ROAD GAME TO VOYAGEURS

The York University women's basketball team lost 64-46 against the Laurentian Voyageurs during their second game of the weekend on Saturday, Jan. 5 at in Sudbury, Ont.  

The Voyageurs took the lead in the first quarter of the game and kept it throughout the remainder of the game. 

Laurentian's Kayla Deschatelets scored the first two points for the Voyageurs and picked up three more points in the first quarter to contribute to their 11 points in the first quarter. The Lions' Alysha Pinck scored the first two points for York. The Lions were able to catch up to the Voyageurs who jumped out to an early 9-2 lead with another two points from Pinck as well as points from Megan MacLeod, Haley Bowie and Madeline Weber

The Lions finished the first quarter one point behind the Voyageurs who led 11-10 in a defensive opening frame.

In the second quarter of the game the Voyageurs were able to continue their early momentum and added 18 more points to their score and the Lions added eight to theirs. 

At the end of the second quarter, the Voyageurs led 29-18 

The third quarter of the game saw the Voyageurs increase their lead by outscoring the Lions 21-16. By the end of the third quarter Laurentian was leading 50-34. 

The Voyageurs were able to secure their win in the final quarter as they added 14 more points and the Lions added 12 for a 64-46 final 

The Lions' Cyanna King contributed 15 points and six rebounds for York, the most for the team, while the Voyageurs' Emily Tinnes contributed 21 points for Laurentian. 

The Lions will be playing the Toronto Varsity Blues next on Friday, Jan. 11 on home court. The game tips off at 6pm.
