On Saturday, the No. 10 nationally ranked York University Lions women's hockey team defeated the Windsor Lancers away at the Atlas Tube Centre with a score of 3-0.
Â
The Lions aimed to get back into the win column after their loss against the No. 8 Western Mustangs. The Lions struck first and scored late in the 14
th minute of the first period from forward
Kara Washer assisted by her teammates
Brooke Anderson and
Julia McLennan. The Lions continued to attack and played strong defence as the Lancers remained goalless for the rest of the first period.
Â
The Lions continued to play great defence in the second and had not conceded any goals, thanks to goalie
Serena Vilde. However, the second period saw no goals for either side.
Â
The third period commenced, and the Lions continued to add pressure on the Lancers and strived to add another goal to the scoreboard. Forward,
Courtney Gardiner scored in the 11

Taylor Coward and McLennan again. With the clock winding down, the Lancers were desperate to get a goal, and pulled their goalie Jaydlin Spooner from the ice. Fortunately for the Lions, it allowed them to add another goal. Washer scored her second goal of the game with the help of
Rebecca Lopes, ending the period 3-0 for the Lions.
Â
The Lions are now 1-1 following their first weekend of action, and will pick back up on Friday against Ontario Tech for their home opener at Canlan for 7 pm.
