After a couple of tough weekends, the York University Lions women's hockey team bounced back in dominating fashion to drop the Laurentian Voyageurs 4-0 at Canlan on Friday night.
Â
Following a scoreless first period, Lions forward
Kara Washer got the Lions on the board on the power-play after a cross checking penalty. The goal was assisted by
Brooke Anderson and
Caroline Eagles. Five minutes later the home team doubled their lead thanks toÂ
Tayler Murphy after a quick pass from Washer, putting the Lions up 2-0 at the end of the second.
Â
Outshooting their opponents 11-0 in the third, the Lions were relentless on offence.
Taylor Coward would keep the scoring going for the Lions after
Kelsey McHolm found her off a pass from
Sarah Power. In the dying minutes of the game, Power sealed the deal with an empty netter to give the Lions their eighth win in 13 games.
Lions goalie
Lauren Dubie stopped all seven shots faced earning the shutout, as the Lions completely outshot the visitors 33-7.
With the win the Lions are now 8-4-0-1 and have moved up to second in the OUA standings.
Â
The Lions return to the ice tomorrow night to host the No. 7 Nipissing Lakers at Canlan. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15pm.
