LIONS CONTINUE SEASON-OPENING HOMESTAND AGAINST BADGERS ON SATURDAY

The York University Lions men's volleyball team continues its season-opening four-game homestand on Saturday afternoon with a visit from the Brock Badgers to the Tait McKenzie Centre.

Last Meetings
The Badgers have only had a men's volleyball team for three seasons and the Lions have won all three matches, including last season when they took it in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-17, 25-21. Saturday's contest is the only one between the two teams this season.

  • The Lions began their season with a massive 3-1 win over the defending OUA champion Queen's Gaels but were defeated in four sets by Ryerson the following week. They have not played since facing the Rams on Oct. 30.
  • The Lions are the best serving team in the OUA early in the season with 2.5 service aces per set, the only team with an average above two.
  • Saturday's match is the only one of the weekend for the Lions. They will play their fourth straight home game next Saturday against McMaster before finally hitting the road the following day against Trent, their first of three straight away from Tait.
 
Brock
  • The Badgers have earned splits in each of their first two weekends of action. They began with a loss to Windsor and a win over Western, and last week they defeated RMC and then fell in five sets to Queen's.
  • The Badgers are one of the higher scoring teams in the OUA, ranking third with 15.2 points per set. They are also second with 9.38 digs per set.
  • After facing the Lions on Saturday, the Badgers will be back in action the next day against the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay, Ont.

OH Andrew Shotbolt – The former OUA East all-star in 2018, he is coming off an injury-plagued season but has started out strong. He is averaging 2.6 points per set, putting him second in team scoring, and ranks second in the OUA with 0.75 service aces per set.
 
OH Luke de Greeff – The rookie has been dominant on offence and defence this season, leading the Lions in scoring (3.4 points per set) and digs (1.63 per set). He is tied for ninth in OUA scoring and 16th in digs per set.
 
Brock
 
M Peter Schnabel – An OUA West second-team all-star last season. He is averaging 2.4 points per set this season, good for top 40 in the OUA and fourth on the team.
 
S Grant Reddon – Ranks third in the OUA with 9.09 assists per set.
